Have You Achieved Something Special Outside of School….

If one of the children in the Dalry community has achieved something special outside of school, from sporting success to chess, from environmental work to volunteering, or even an especially interesting activity, we love to hear about it in school.

If you think it’s worth a shout out here on the website as well then either talk to Mr Bennett if you see him or send an email and photo or two adressed to FAO Mr Bennett to the school’s admin email address.

Wider Achievements are celebrated in news posts which are also filtered in the wider achievments menu of the website.

School Tours For Prospective Families

Are you a family thinking about enrolling at Dalry Primary?

Normally we would be hosting an open day with school tours but COVID 19 restrictions still make this impossible at present.

If you do want to take a video tour of the school we can offer you 2 different ones filmed in the last year.

The first is a thorough tour led by students aimed at families as a whole.

Our Second video is a tour aimed at Nursery into P1 families and gives a tour more focused on a day in the life of a P1. This tour is available in English or Arabic.

We hope you enjoy these videos and we see you in the near future at Dalry Primary.

Netflix, Squid Games and Parental Controls

Are you concerned about your child watching inappropriate content online? Even if you use the browser controls to block inappropriate websites many streaming services, from Netflix to Disney + host content designed for adults and teens that would be very inappropriate for any child in our school to be viewing.

Sometimes the labels and postings may look child friendly but be anything but. The latest example we are hearing about in school is Squid Games which, with playground games and hot pastel colours the sets look at a glance like it may be a kid’s game show. But it is actually a bloodsoaked, ultra-violent, satirical drama for adults.

The streamers do flag this content with age ratings, but kids are unlikely to notice, read or respect those every time.

To protect children from viewing this content accidentally all mainstream video streaming sites have also have parental controls which just take a moment to set up. Without these switched on though your child is only a click or two away from sexually explicit, violent content and depictions of drug taking. So taking a few minutes to turn protections on is worthwhile.

We’ve linked to videos below to help you quickly set the parental controls on the most popular services.

P7b put the B in Bikeability

Here are some few photos of P7B at Bikeability. P7B had a great time at Bikeability and enjoyed showing off their new riding skills.

The first photo shows the girls doing a ‘M’ check – checking the bike is safe to ride. All pupils worked really hard and were super at supporting each other. Mrs Clements was very impressed at their determination and confidence. Thanks to Miss Low for her excellent teaching!

Teams Password Problems and How To Guide

Ahead of the autumn parent consultations, and with particular thought to our P1 families and other new starts, here are both some general guides to using teams/365 which we made during the 2 lockdowns, along with a troubleshooting guide to dealing with signing in and password issues.

URGENT UPDATE

The digital learning team have changed the look of their website today (30/09/21). The button you click is now the one circled below not the learner’s login shown in the video.

Troubleshooting Teams Login

Here are some of the most common sign in issues to help with quick trouble shooting.

WONKY FONT ISSUES WITH PASSWORDS The font on the sign in sheet is outside our control and sadly has some confusing type issues.

First up it prints lower case letter L almost exactly the same as a number 1. There are two ways to spot this. Firstly the lower case L has a serif at the top which sticks out straight to the left, a right angle, while the 1 has the slightest of angles downwards.

Another classic issue is the confusion of letter o or O with the number 0.

To help spot these issues please be aware the format of the passwords is 6 letters (always including a single capital) followed by up to 2 numbers. So for example if your 1 is in the first 6 characters it’s actually a lower case L.

EMAIL ISSUES
The default sign in sheets print out an email formatted 12345678@schools.edin.org (or similar). This is out of date for signing into the system but again outside the school’s control. Instead check you are using the format 12345678@ea.edin.sch.uk where needed. We have now got stickers or simple pen crossing out that should have corrected this.

MIXING UP EMAILS AND USERNAMES This is hard to explain in writing but essentially the “username” can either be the email as described above or just the number part. The video linked above should make this clearer.
