Dalry Rising Star on the Red Carpet

Poppy in P4 recently entered the EE Mini Movie Makers contest and she was the second in her category.

She won her a trip to the BAFTAs last Sunday as a red carpet reporter! Poppy got to enter many big movie stars at the BAFTAs including Colin Farrell, Brendon Gleason, Brendon Fraser, Naomi Ackie and Andy Serkis!

Well done Poppy! Below is Poppy’s prize winning entry and some photos and video of the red carpet fun.

Guide to Children’s Rights

The Scottish Governement has shared the below message with us.

——-

We are delighted to announce the launch of the new Guide to Children’s Rights for Parents, Carers and family members.

This much anticipated resource provides information about children’s rights and introduces the United Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The UNCRC is the internationally mandated children’s rights treaty which sets out the rights that all children and young people should expect and what they need to grow up happy, healthy and safe. It outlines the central role played by parents and families and also recognises that they need protection and assistance to support the rights and wellbeing of their children.

The booklet was created by the UNCRC Parents Network, made up of parenting organisations and Scottish Government policy officials, who have been meeting for over a year to look at how best to inform parents, carers and family members about the rights of their children. It conveys broad universal messaging about children’s rights and has adopted a warm and reassuring tone.

Children in Scotland Alcohol Advertising Consultation

Children in Scotland has an exciting new project opportunity for children and young people to be involved in.

The Scottish Government is asking for everyone’s views on how alcohol is advertised in Scotland. They want to make changes to how this currently works so they can improve people’s health and wellbeing. The Scottish Government is particularly keen to hear about what children and young people think so they have asked us to help gather their views and ideas.

If you are:

  • Aged between 8 – 18
  • Passionate about the views of children and young people being included in areas that impact on them
  • Interested in being part of an interesting project and working together with other young people

…then we would love to hear from you!

The project will start in January 2023. We will have 5 online meetings between 12 January and 2 March. Each of these meetings will take place on Thursday evenings between 4.30-6.30pm.

If you have any questions or would like to be involved in the project, then please contact Parisa on pshirazi@childreninscotland.org.uk.

We do not expect anyone applying to know a great deal about this issue, David and Parisa (our friendly staff who will be running the sessions) will make sure that everyone has the information they need to be part of the discussions.
