Polish Spotlight Competition

We’ve received the following information on a competition for Polish speaking families from the Stephen Spender trust.

Hi all,

We have just launched this year’s Polish Spotlight prize, which is an ideal activity for Polish-speakers to work on at home (with their parents, if they wish). Entrants translate a Polish poem into English, and write a short commentary about their translation.

We have curated a short list of fantastic poems for them to choose from, including lots by living poets. It’s a great way for Polish-speakers to engage with their heritage culture while practising the core literacy skills associated with translation.

The Spotlight is part of the national Stephen Spender Prize, which is for translation of any poem out of any language. In recent years we’ve received increasing numbers of entries from EAL pupils, and lots of positive feedback from them, EAL coordinators, parents and teachers. Please do spread the word amongst your pupils. The deadline is 17 July and we’ve made lots of virtual resources available here: http://www.multilingualcreativity.org.uk/resources/

Holidays and In Service Days in Coming Weeks

It’s Friday, It’s May and we hope you’ve all had another great Dalry Digital week.

We’d just like to remind you that there is an in service day and a school holiday to mark the 75th anniversary of VE day next week.

As a result P6 and P7 teams won’t run on Monday or Friday and Teachers won’t be on Twitter on those days.

We will be doing quite a lot of training and planning on Monday to try to keep adding to our digital school.

There is another holiday on Monday May 18th.

Have a great weekend and see you for another (shorter) Dalry Digital week on Tuesday.

A Mine of Information From @NatMiningMuseum

The National Mining Museum (one of our regular holiday fun suggestions) have created a brand  webpage, “Learning at Home with the Mining Museum” .

It has three brand new Resource Packs complete with fact sheets, wellbeing check-in and hands-on activities which can be completed using items you have at home!

Activities focus on STEMSocial StudiesLiteracy, Outdoor Learning and Arts & Crafts. In addition they are offering every child or young person the opportunity to earn their very own, personalised, Mine of Information Certificate from us when they complete any one activity!

So if you are looking for more activities away from the schoolwork coalface why not dig into what they are offering?

Our resource pack topics include:

  1. Rocks, Fossils and Energy
  2. Victorian Miners
  3. Coalmine Detectives

All our resources are completely FREE, no sign-up required, and can be downloaded from our website here.
