A Mine of Information From @NatMiningMuseum

The National Mining Museum (one of our regular holiday fun suggestions) have created a brand  webpage, “Learning at Home with the Mining Museum” .

It has three brand new Resource Packs complete with fact sheets, wellbeing check-in and hands-on activities which can be completed using items you have at home!

Activities focus on STEMSocial StudiesLiteracy, Outdoor Learning and Arts & Crafts. In addition they are offering every child or young person the opportunity to earn their very own, personalised, Mine of Information Certificate from us when they complete any one activity!

So if you are looking for more activities away from the schoolwork coalface why not dig into what they are offering?

Our resource pack topics include:

All our resources are completely FREE, no sign-up required, and can be downloaded from our website here.

Hearts Community Digital Athletes Online Club

Tanya from the Hearts coding club, which many Dalry children attend, has asked us to share the below info with you about the new club they are setting up online. This is an external club to the council so any enquiries or questions should go to Tanya at Hearts.

I wanted to share with you both a brand new online club that we have just launched for young people in primary school aged 8+ to learn about the world of coding and digital from home with support and guidance from our amazing team of mentors. We’re using Google Classrooms to do this and I would like to emphasise that we have worked to make sure this is a safe and secure environment that is monitored by appropriately qualified and checked mentors. More information about our new online clubs can be found in the latest club announcement,

https://www.heartsfc.co.uk/news/article/hearts-launch-online-education-programme

We would be delighted if you could share this with the families at your school as something extra to keep young people learning new skills whilst at home. Whilst you will need a device to access the online challenges, we will be including activities on there that do not require any devices to help make things more accessible. Registration can be done using the link below,

Ramadan Mubarak

Dalry Primary School wish Ramadan Mubarak to all our of our families marking Ramadan.

We hope that the lockdown, while tough, can make this time of year more memorable and special as you have more time with family. We will miss sharing it with you all.

We really hope to have a brilliant family meal as we usually do to mark Eid and year end once school resumes.

Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital Video

Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital have sent us the below message and video.

We hope that you are well and staying safe.

At the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh things are changing on a daily basis and Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity are doing all we can to support the children, families and staff during these challenging times.

The doctors and nurses told us that children were becoming distressed at seeing the staff in their PPE, and that their usual methods of helping children stay calm during their hospital visits and treatments weren’t working because of the clothing and equipment that they now have to wear.

To help them, we have made a short film (just 2 minutes long) to explain to children why different workers need to wear PPE to stay safe, and to show that under the masks and aprons it is still the same friendly people at the hospital. We are keen for this film to be seen by as many children as possible so they know what to expect and are not as scared if they need to come to hospital, and so we are sending it to all of the schools on our list.
