In written English some of our vowel sounds, the key building blocks of spoken language, are not represented by one letter but by several written together.
These are known as “Vowel Digraphs” and after learning the Sounds of the English Alphabet are the next step in a phonics based approach for reading.
We take this approach in school and you can support that learning at home with the sounds below and the other resources in our phonics resource pages.
