P6 have been having a great time today continuing the project with Love Gorgie Farm.

Today’s step was to learn about how food is planted from seedlings with P6 creating window boxes.
The class learned about all the equipment needed and about compost.
Most of all they got their hands dirty!
Well done P6 and thanks to the helpers from Love Gorgie.

P2/3 had a fabulous afternoon celebrating our wonderful book bags. We read all the books from over the course of the day and spent the afternoon completing fun challenges.
P2 enjoyed a brilliant bug hunt in the playground and used their magnifying glasses and rulers to sort and classify the insects they found. They also created Errol puppets to take home.
P3 pupils enjoyed designing their ideal homes and loved getting to grips with the Top Trump games in their bags.
What a treat for us all!

Our IDL topic this term focuses on Ancient Egypt.
The children are really engaged with it and are enjoying discovering how people lived and died 5000 years ago!
We have looked at evidence and artefacts, deciding which pieces are reliable, and the children have loved exploring how the amazing pyramids were built and used.

This term we have been able to start our Roots of Empathy lessons.

The children have been learning how to understand other people’s feelings and their own. The program has been modified so that the children get to know our Roots of Empathy family: baby Mila and mum Caroline through videos and photographs. The lessons are delivered by instructor Mrs Harris-Toner and our ‘little teacher’ is baby Mila. The children have really enjoyed getting to know baby Mila and hear her news.
The children have shared their feelings and experiences through their artwork and the roles they have at home and in school. Last week the children had lots of fun learning about and demonstrating how baby Mila uses body language to communicate her feelings.
For more information please ask Mrs Harris-Toner and Miss Low. Also check out http://www.rootsofempathy.org
