The Sorries Assembly

On Monday we had our brilliant annual visit from folk duo The Sorries in celebration of Scots Week. This was arranged in conjunction with Soundstep workshops who also provided a bodhran drumming workshop for P7 and P3/4.

Thank you to The Sorries, Soundstep Workshops and to all of our student performers.

They led us all in traditional folk songs and were ably supported by singers from some of our classes.

We finished with a great whole school rendition of Auld Lang Syne

Masterclasses

A new block of Master Classes started last Friday. The children chose from a wide selection of skills based classes such as fitness, dance, cooking, yoga, relaxation, traditional card games, Chinese crafts, painting, chess and Lego construction. Masterclasses will continue 3 Fridays out of 4.

P2 Enjoying Roots of Empathy – Theme 2: Crying

Last term P2 were learning about how crying is a baby’s main means of communication, that babies are just letting us know they need help. Letting their parent/caregiver know they have a physical or psychological need.
The children were delighted to have their second visit from baby Arthur and his mum Miss Younger, they helped the children understand that a baby’s temperament determines the frequency, intensity and duration of their crying. Miss Younger shared her experience of being a parent and Arthur was happy to do some gentle exercises to show us how much he had developed since his last visit.
In addition P2 discovered many techniques for soothing a crying baby such as cuddling, walking, talking, singing, gently rocking and that each baby has their own unique preferences for being soothed. Also that a persistently crying baby can cause a parent/caregiver to become frustrated, the children discussed different strategies to help them cope.
Last week P2 started Theme 3: Caring and Planning for Baby and we were focusing on teething and how they felt when they lost their first baby tooth, through sharing their experiences  with the class and in their drawings. They are looking forward to seeing Baby Arthur and Miss Younger next week to find out how to care and plan for baby and to see how much Arthur has grown.
