For those children observing Ramadan that wish to pray at lunchtimes a space will be put aside daily, supervised by Mrs Ahmed.

Gorgie Farm trip for the Nursery
The nursery enjoyed the arrival of Spring at Gorgie Farm. We saw goats, ducks, sheep, and lots of pigs and chickens! We even bought chicken eggs and made them into egg sandwiches for our snack the next day. A BIG ‘Thank You’ to all the parents who helped us make this trip and made it such a great day out.
The farm is a great place for families to visit and is just 10 minutes from the school, along Gorgie Road. Their lovely café is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
P5 Violinists
Our P5 violinists are doing great work in their lessons.
Their persistence and practice is really paying off and they are starting to use musical notation.
Well done and keep bowing!
Nursery Star and a Wish Evaluation
At the beginning of Term 3 we gave all our nursery families a Parent and Child survey.
Pupil Council Meeting Easter 2018
Just before the Easter break the pupil council met to discuss a range of issues icluding assemblies and reading areas.
The children all agreed that they would like changes to assemblies. We will continue to have whole school assemblies for sharing learning class assemblies as they really like this, but the building resilience introduction assemblies will be split into age groups. Sharing assemblies for building resilience will still be whole school and we can review this after the next one.
Clan points and certificates will be given out at either stage or whole school assemblies, as the council felt the children were really engaged with this, and also the weekly tea party for Pupil of the Week.
BIg SIng will also change this term as the younger children in particular said they find this a really noisy and unpleasant experience.
The plans for developing a new reading corner in each class sound exciting and the children all reported back with a wee progress update to hear what each class is doing. They are all very enthused with this project.
The two big areas that Pupil Council want to focus on this term are litter in the playground and the toilets.
STEM Club Slimetime
This Thursday, after school, STEM club had a great time making slime.

| Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival
Come and join a singing workshop on Tuesday 22nd May 3.30-4.30pm at Tynecastle High School, in connection with the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival. No singing or musical experience needed, everybody welcome! The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF, 7-27 May 2018) is an annual festival to raise awareness of mental health issues (and challenge preconceptions about mental health) through music, film, visual arts, dance, theatre and literature. The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Beginnings’, and it is happening during Scotland’s 2018 ‘Year Of Young People’. Our singing workshop is free and open to everybody in the Tynecastle High School community: students, parents and carers, school staff, and also those in our cluster primary schools (Dalry, Balgreen, Stenhouse and Craiglockhart). Singing will be led by Caro Overy, who joined us in February to lead a workshop during Children’s Mental Health Week. Caro is a choir leader, singer, and songwriter who enjoys sharing songs old and new from around the world to help people connect and have fun through singing.
