Happy Diwali

Happy Diwali

P2 had a fantastic time doing an Autumn Scavenger Hunt at Murieston Park this week. We searched for lots of autumn objects with a partner then had some fun playing the the park and doing some outdoor gym games to keep us warm. What a great morning! 😊

Our art club volunteer, muralist and local artist Damian Callan, will soon be celebrating a big birthday with an exhibition. Many of our children have worked with Damian and so may be particularly interested in attending.
He writes,
(If I haven’t already done so) I would like to let you know about my 60th Birthday Exhibition from 11th – 17th December 2020 at the Dundas Street Gallery, Edinburgh. I am borrowing around 35 paintings that depict Ruth and the children over the past 25 years. I will also be exhibiting a further 30 new drawings and paintings alongside the ‘retrospective’ selection.

Dear Parent/Carer,
Edinburgh’s Children’s Partnership is really eager to hear views of Parents and Carers across Edinburgh. If you are a Parent or Carer and live in Edinburgh we would like to hear how you coped during the initial COVID-19 lockdown period and how we can best respond to any new and existing needs that you may have. Please take a few moments to complete this survey and help to shape future Family Support Services across the city.
We would be very grateful if you could complete the survey before Friday the 20th of November.
We celebrated all things Halloween this week in P1/2. The children read Funnybones and made their own skeletons.
The P2 children also wrote brilliant book reviews.
We then had a go at pumpkin carving. The children all designed pumpkin faces and we then selected the winning designs. Mrs Innes carved them perfectly. We are going to use the seeds to try to plant put own pumpkins for next year!
As a treat, we decided to make some delicious chocolate apples. The children really enjoyed covering the apples with chocolate and covering them with sprinkles. It’s been a great week!

In class last week, P2 used different objects to create symmetrical pictures. We used numicon, floor tiles and small shapes to practise our skills as well as creating our own ‘butterflies’- an example of symmetry in the natural world. 🦋 Symmetry is all around us and we will explore this in the coming weeks.

The nursery had a great time at Halloween

We looked at some American folk art to inspire these ‘Perfect Landscape’ pictures. The children worked really carefully to add interesting lines, different patterns and colours.

Normally at this time of year our clan chiefs and deputes would be guiding families around Dalry Primary as part of P1 registration week.
We couldn’t do that this year thanks to the pandemic so we have made a video with two of our chiefs for prospective parents, carers and P1s to get a look at the school.
It’s also a great opportunity for this year’s P1 and P1/2 families to get a peek inside the classroom as you would normally have been able to do on parents evening.
We haven’t been able to have our usual Diwali extravaganza at Dalry Primary this year but P6 stepped in and have organised a fantastic classroom sized celebration.
The video of the celebration is at the bottom of this page along below some photos of the event and behind the scenes preparations.
P6 also wanted you to watch a BBC video about Diwali linked next.

Happy Diwali everybody and well done P6.
