P7 began their link up with Edinburgh College today.
They took parts in a TEAMS meeting where they interacted with the college lecturers and learned how bridges are built so that they are strong and durable. They then got the chance to build their own bridges and test them over the ‘drop of doom’ to see how much weight they could hold. Four bridges managed to hold 1kg showing that P7 has taken on board what they had been told during the TEAMS meet.
P2 explored symmetry further this week by going outside to make symmetrical pictures using natural items. Our class mini topic is ‘Autumn,’ so we used conkers, leaves and cones collected by the class to make our creations, just in time before the rain started.
We all enjoyed a spooky Hallowe’en themed lunch on Thursday. Mrs Smith kindly decorated the dining hall and we enjoyed listening to a Hallowe’en playlist as we ate the delicious lunch!
We are also now in a position to request that our cameras on pupil devices are switched on due to the very good progress that both staff and pupils have made with ICT.. This will enable the children to see one another, and for the teacher to communicate with them via video chat if classes are required to self-isolate or if we enter a further school closure. The children will also be enabled to use the camera function within the school.

We have had the following message aimed at second level pupils from Children in Scotland.
Children in Scotland is teaming up with GTCS on another project. This time on diversity (particularly from a race point of view) in Scottish education. It is launching today – I am very excited!
We are looking for a group of diversity champions. Aged 8-18. We will be meeting them online on a Monday after school in November/early December. Everyone is welcome, but of course it is really important we hear from children from a BAME background.
Do you think you have pupils who might be interested in applying? It would be great to have someone from Dalry in the group. I wonder if you might want to share it in school, on Twitter etc? (Closing date for applications is Friday 30th October.)
We have started to learn our initial sounds and have enjoyed discovering new ways to work on our motor skills, which will help us for our letters correctly. Some children are beginning to blend these sounds and read and create words all by themselves!
P1/2 have been learning all about repeated patterns in class. We had a go at making our own. We are really good at making sure we follow the colour patterns we create.
