Jim Douglas Citizenship Award 2023

Created by the family of Jim Douglas, a former Dalry pupil who left Edinburgh to become a leading publisher in Canada, the Jim Douglas award celebrates outstanding contribution to the school from a pupil in P5-7 who has embodied our school values:

Together we are respectful, included, responsible and kind.

The 2023 recipient was a joint award to Hoda and Eilish. In the presentation Mrs Honeyman particularly underlined how Hoda has rapidly become a leader in P6 after starting with us later in her school career. Eilish was commended for her massive engagement in P6 and the school.

Well done Hoda and Eilish!

P2 SHANARRI Wheels

As part of our Home Learning P2 pupils taught their adults at home about Children’s Rights and the SHANARRI wheel. Pupils discussed what their rights were and how their adults at home protect their rights. As a family they designed a family shield showing 4 of the rights and how they protect them as a family. Below are a few of the examples:

P2 Plant Up

P2 have been learning about plants, naming the parts of plants and how they grow. We went outdoors to draw some plants and also planted sunflower seeds with P3. The seeds have sprouted and are ready to take home to repot.

P2 Get a Handle on Data Handling

P2 have been learning about data handling. They are becoming more confident with the meaning of data is and how they can use data.

To design a new car pupils wanted to know the most popular car colour to make sure more people would but their car.
They took a tally of car colours that passed the front of the school.
They turned the tally marks into a table, then into a bar graph. Finally they designed their cars based on the most popular car colour they saw.
We discussed the pupils different results and why we didn’t get an accurate answer to their question ‘what’s the most popular car colour?’ But they enjoyed the process and became more confident with the concept of data.

P2 to the Zoo

P2 had a wonderful time at the Zoo with P2/3 and P3. All pupils were responsible and respectful throughout the whole outing even when they were hot and tired at the end.

They participated in an Endangered animal game at the education centre and saw many animals.  We went to say good bye to the pandas and hello to the giraffes.

We even had time for a play in the park before heading back to school.

P4/5 and P4 Zoo Trip

‘P5/4 and P4 had a great day at Edinburgh Zoo on Tuesday, (despite the weather!) We were lucky to see lots of the animals and were particularly excited to see the pandas after taking part in our show Bamboozled. We also took part in a session called ‘Big Endangered Animals Game’, which was great fun and a win for Team Lion.’
