P2a Roots of Empathy News

This term, P2a have been finding out how to keep a baby safe, especially as babies develop and reaching new milestones and facing new safety issues. They really enjoyed Angus’s visit with his mum, where Miss Younger shared with the children how she keeps Angus safe. Also the children loved learning how Angus is trying some foods, especially fruit and veg. In addition how Angus is becoming stronger and rolling over from back to front. The children discovered how vulnerable babies are, how dependent they are on their family and how they must never be left alone.

In addition the children enjoyed sharing their knowledge and experience of home safety tips: always place a baby on their back when they are going to sleep, not leaving hot beverages on the edge of a table, keeping toxic chemicals out of reach, removing potential electrical hazards and Online safety. Also discovering how mums-to-be keep themselves and their babies healthy during pregnancy.

Through learning how to keep a baby safe, the children appreciated that they can play a part in keeping themselves and others safe. Whether it is in the park, playing games online, crossing the road, at school or at home.

P2b Roots of Empathy News

This month P2b have been discovering how babies understand long before we realise, so it is very important to communicate and respond to babies. The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit from baby Ammar and his mum Zeinab, he was showing us how he communicates his feelings and wishes to his mum Zeinab with body gestures, facial cues and making a variety of sounds. The children sang nursery rhymes to Ammar and created a book of their drawings which was presented to Ammar, of their favourite nursery rhymes and songs. In addition P2b were learning how to read baby Ammar’s emotions and this helps us to read each other’s emotions.

The children were so excited to see how active Ammar is becoming since his last visit. He was trying to crawl on the green blanket and waved to the children to say goodbye. Also he delighted the children when he giggled and they said this made them feel happy and excited. Finally Ammar has had his first haircut and everyone thought he looked so grown up.

Happy World Book Day!

P2A took part in lots of different activities to celebrate WBD including: being illustrators by drawing the main character of Arlo from the book ‘Arlo, the lion who couldn’t sleep,’ creating mini story books about Arlo, colouring in bookmarks with their name to use at home, doing a reading book scavenger hunt and finally our P7 buddies came by to read our bedtime stories to us. We managed not to fall asleep in our pyjamas which was a miracle!

P2b – World Book Day

P2b had a very busy World Book Day on Thursday. We took part in an authors live event drawing along with Emily McKenzie to draw our own Granville the Dalmatian. We enjoyed reading our favourite stories with our P7 buddies and designed our own bookmarks. We all loved coming to school in our pyjamas even though it made us all feel very sleepy!!
