This fifth annual Scottish Youth Film Festival take place in Edinburgh
for the first time ever. The festival which started as a youth project
in West Lothian has spent the last two years in Glasgow.

Scott Mackay, a founder of the festival said;

“It was always our intention to move the festival around the country and
funding from Screen Scotland this year has allowed us to start doing
that.”

The festival holds an awards ceremony for films that have been made by
young people in Scotland and past winners have ranged in age from 5 to
19 yrs. The films are judged by a panel of young people in conjunction
with Into Film and they really get a buzz out of receiving their awards.
The charity is supported by Kevin Guthrie of Sunshine on Leith and Tommy
Gormley of Star Wars/ Star Trek and Mission Impossible amongst others,
but the entire aim of the festival is to get even more young people
interested in film; As co-founder David Barras says;

“SYFF’s aim is to enhance life chances for young scots through film and
Scotland has proved time and time again that the talent is here. So we
hold workshops, talks and activities that appeal to a range of young
people. There’s everything from make-up (Gillian Johnston who works on
the Crown) to how to build your own light sabre”

The event is FREE and a limited number of tickets can be booked on
Eventbrite. All events and activities will take place at the Edinburgh
Centre for Carbon Innovation between 10 am and 4pm on Saturday and
Sunday with Saturday being aimed at secondary school age and Sunday
aimed at the primary age group.
