In April, P2 have been finding out how to keep a baby safe, especially as babies develop and reaching new milestones and facing new safety issues. They really enjoyed Arthur’s visit with his mum and dad, where they shared with the children how they keep Arthur safe. Everyone really enjoyed their visit and it was interesting for the children to see Arthur relating to both his parents. The children realised how vulnerable babies are, how dependent they are on their parents and how they must never be left alone.
In addition the children enjoyed sharing their knowledge and experience of home safety tips: always place a baby on their back when they are going to sleep, not leaving hot beverages on the edge of a table, keeping toxic chemicals out of reach and removing potential electrical hazards. Also discovering how mums-to-be help to keep themselves and their babies healthy during pregnancy.
Through learning how to keep a baby safe, the children appreciated that they can play a part in keeping themselves and others safe. Whether it is in the park, crossing the road, at school or at home. the children discussed the hazards and strategies how to avoid them.
