Primary 2a and primary 2b have been enjoying learning some Scottish ceilidh dances together. So far we have learnt The Grand Old Duke of York and The Primary School Jig. Miss McArthur and Miss Ellis have loved seeing the children smiling, laughing and clapping along. 

Primary two had a great first week back after the holidays. We got to see our buddies for paired reading and they read our new library books to us. Although some of us read to them!

We also made our own 2024 calendars to take home and had lots of fun painting our hands to create the zero in 2024. 

Primary 2’s very much enjoyed the fun and games at their Christmas party yesterday. We even had a visit from a very special visitor! Merry Christmas everyone! 

Recently P2a have been sharing their experiences of losing teeth and growing new ones through stories and artwork.

The children have enjoyed a special visit from baby Angus and his mum Miss Younger. Our Roots of Empathy family visited us to tell us all about being a parent, how they are coping and how Angus does not have teeth yet. The children were able to give suggestions on how to soothe Angus when he is teething. Miss Younger showed us all the things needed in her change bag to care for baby Angus and the children were delighted to see how much Angus has grown and changed since we last saw him. He showed us he can sit up supported and enjoyed trying to grasp a toy.

The theme focused on how caring and planning for baby during their first year is demanding, exciting and a challenging responsibility. In addition the more a parent can turn these routines into to opportunities for playful and loving interactions. The more a baby can achieve a secure attachment, become competent and cope positively with life.

We enjoyed performances from each year group, our violin students and our choir, as well as a visit from Father John from St Martin of Tours Episcopal Church.

Our chess team were successful a few weeks ago in winning the Lothian Junior Chess Championship! An amazing achievement for our pupils. Thank you to Stewart and Bill, our wonderful Chess volunteers for their work every week at Chess Club and with our chess masterclass.

P1 and P2 were absolutely amazing this week performing the ‘Christmas Counts’ nativity play.

Clan Caledonia enjoyed a day of cooking and crafting.

P1 to P7 enjoyed a lovely festive Christmas lunch today. Thanks to Miss Smith for decorating the hall, organising the juice and the Christmas party music.
