P2A took part in lots of different activities to celebrate WBD including: being illustrators by drawing the main character of Arlo from the book ‘Arlo, the lion who couldn’t sleep,’ creating mini story books about Arlo, colouring in bookmarks with their name to use at home, doing a reading book scavenger hunt and finally our P7 buddies came by to read our bedtime stories to us. We managed not to fall asleep in our pyjamas which was a miracle!

A display of the winning entries is on display for everyone to admire.
We had a visit from Gert Rijsdijk, Senior Transport Officer CEC and an artist Shona Hardie on Monday at assembly. They shared information about the exciting community project that we are part of to improve safe travel to school, and to improve the area surrounding the school entrances.
We are all very excited to see the positive difference that this will make to our school community.
P2a enjoyed sharing their learning with the whole school on Monday. P2a have been learning about their local area and how we can look after our community through reuse, reduce and recycle.
This month P2a is has been finding out about how babies sleep and how important sleep is for the baby and parents. We had a visit from baby Angus and his mum Miss Younger and the children were excited to see Angus and see how much he is grown since we last weighed and measured him last year. We noticed he was playing more with the toys, had a stronger grip and was trying really hard to reach for the toys. Miss Younger shared with the children Angus’s sleep pattern, that he is sleeping longer and only waking up twice in the night for a feed. Also, he enjoys all his toys and doesn’t have a favourite yet. The children discovered that Angus is doing a lot of growing and needs more sleep than the P2s need, and we all have different bedtime routines to help us have a good sleep.
P2a really enjoyed learning about the different sleep cycles of REM and non-REM sleep and the different transitional objects that soothe babies and help them sleep. The children have enjoyed sharing their experiences and how they sleep and their favourite toy or blanket that helps them to fall sleep. In addition the children discovered how parents safely put their babies down to sleep on their backs, how temperament and routine is different for every baby.

We were lucky to have a visit from Ceilidh Crew theatre company last week and this week to P1 and P2. Last week, we took part in a workshop to learn some Scots words, games and songs. Then this week, we got to watch the performance of ‘A jaunt round auld reekie’ and join in with the songs that we learned. It was full of laughs, jokes, silliness and wonderful singing. We all enjoyed this fantastic show 😀
P2 had a smashing afternoon last week trying different types of Scottish food. Afterwards, we created a class pictogram to see which was the most popular and it was no surprise to see that ‘Irn Bru’ came out top in both classes. Braw!!!
This month P2a have been learning about emotional literacy, to identify, name and feel comfortable about discussing emotions. They have discovered that emotions are not good or bad, but pleasant or unpleasant. Also that everyone experiences the same emotions and that our temperament and personalities influences how we deal with them.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed our family visits with baby Angus, and his mum Miss Younger, they recognised and named baby Angus’s emotional cues and facial expressions. How Miss Younger reads Angus’s emotional cues to meet his needs and he feels understood. The children really enjoyed their visit, asking Miss Younger lots of questions and sharing her experiences. The children sang songs for Angus including Three Craws and Twinkle, Little Star. Angus really enjoyed the children’s singing and actions to the songs.
We also talked about different types of teasing and bullying behaviour, how this makes us feel and how talking about our emotions can help us manage them. Also the children created artwork and discussed how they can help their friends when they are sad.

We had a brilliant start to our whole school Scots week with an assembly with ‘The Sorries’. We all enjoyed performances of poetry by P6 and P7 as well as lots of energetic music and song from Marty and Douglas. We were joined by our older nursery pupils who will be moving onto P1 in August too. Next week we will look forward to performances from P1 to P5/6.
Primary 2a and primary 2b have been enjoying learning some Scottish ceilidh dances together. So far we have learnt The Grand Old Duke of York and The Primary School Jig. Miss McArthur and Miss Ellis have loved seeing the children smiling, laughing and clapping along.
