Everyone enjoyed celebrating Diwali this week in P2/3! Some of our girls performed a brilliant dance for the class which went down well. We took our learning outdoors and decorated our playground with beautiful Rangoli designs.

As part of Health and Well-being this term P4a are deepening their understanding of how the brain grows.
They learnt about neurons and synapses, and how when we experience something pathways in our brain are created. The more we experience something the stronger the pathway becomes, and the more likely we are to remember things and increase our ability to perform certain tasks.
This links to developing a growth mindset as people with a growth mindset try and try again, learning from their mistakes, adjusting and improving instead of giving up. This helps the pathways in their brains to develop.
For example, to learn a new musical instrument we need to practise most days to improve. if we just practise once a week then we will not progress as quickly as someone practising every day. If we give up after a few weeks and say “I can’t do this” then our brains won’t have had enough time to develop the pathways, so we won’t know how to play that instrument well. Instead, if we say “I can’t do this YET” and keep trying or ask someone to help us learn then we give our brain more chances to develop pathways and we will eventually be able to play the instrument. In P4a we use mistakes to help us learn, we think about what we didn’t understand that led to the mistake and then work on developing that missing knowledge. We keep trying and use our support team to help us!

P4a welcomed Laura Bains from Bowmer and Kirkland construction and development. The pupils learnt about the different jobs and skills that are incorporated in building development. They considered health and safety while working on a building site and how to dress for the different roles. Many pupils were inspired to consider careers they previously were unaware were available to them.

Primary 3 had a great time celebrating Halloween this week across the curriculum. To finish the week, we created Halloween themed acrostic poems which were full of imagination and spooky words and phrases! BOO!
P3 have really been enjoying taking part in our whole school LOVE Gorgie Farm project. Here are some pictures from our visit to the farm where we had the opportunity to find out about the wide variety of plants, fruits and vegetables grown there. We also took part in an exciting scavenger hunt and finally got to have a sneaky visit to see the animals before walking home. Thanks to Gorgie Farm for making it a very fun trip for our first school excursion in 2 years!

Primary 3 have been focusing on their French language skills this year and after learning lots about French culture, took part in a STEM activity whereby they had to build an Eiffel Tower using only paper straws, scissors and sellotape. After much group discussion and trial and error, I think they were very successful at creating towers which stood up on their tables without support!

If one of the children in the Dalry community has achieved something special outside of school, from sporting success to chess, from environmental work to volunteering, or even an especially interesting activity, we love to hear about it in school.

Before the half term holidays Dalry Primary was experiencing election fever as the annual vote to choose our Clan Chiefs and Deputes arrived.
In the weeks before polling day the candidates wrote and performed amazing video hustings speeches and produced brilliant campaign posters. Many staff commented that this election was the hardest and most passionately fought in their time at Dalry. Each morning before school and at break and lunch candidates were seen canvassing for support and waving banners.
Dalry democracy has never been healthier.
Our election day results were announced by Mr Linton and P6 who put on a brilliant election day special assembly teams call.
It was only last week that Mrs Honeyman was able to present the successful candidates with their official badges of office. So now that they have their proper accoutrements of office let us present the Chiefs and Deputes for 2021-22
Congratulations to all our great candidates successful and unsuccessful.
