Author Visit

The pupils in the Primary 1 to Primary 3 classes were visited by a real author this week. Emma O’Connor, author of children’s picture book Under Grandma’s Table, did a reading and story writing workshop with each class. The children enjoyed listening to the story and came up with fantastic ideas from their imaginations to create a class story together.

P4a Liking Vikings

P4a have been learning about the Vikings. They planned their topic, deciding what they wanted to investigate and how they wanted to learn. They created a Viking display for the classroom and made their own jewellery based on Viking designs but with their own modern twist. They also designed Viking armour and weapons for a re-enactment of the first UK Viking raid at Lindisfarne.

They have gained an understanding of the Viking gods and goddesses through reading tasks and making their own Top Trump game cards.

A connection to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was made by comparing it to the life of the Viking slaves.  The pupils all agree the slaves rights were not being respected and taken away from them.

P6 and 7 Opera Aliens

This week P6 and P7 were joined by Scottish Opera to perform THE LAST ALIENS at St Brides Centre.

It was really amazing to finally be able to do one of the big calendar events of the year in a way that was nearly normal. But sadly that nearly meant parents and carers couldn’t attend.

We hope the above recording goes a long way to making up for not being able to come.

So please enjoy the AMAZING performance by our talented P6s and P7s!
