Primary 5 enjoyed their Creative Coding workshop this week, taught by Generation Science. The pupils were given different coding challenges to complete which involved movement with robots. We worked on following instructions, teamwork and communication.
P3/4 had a great time learning about creative coding in their workshop from Generation Science. They learnt about robots, had hands-on programming experience, and worked with a partner to programme their own robots to complete a series of challenges. A Fun afternoon had by all!
Primary 6 have been supporting Primary 1 with reading tasks each week. This week, our P1 reading buddies came to read with us in our classroom and in the school library! Now both classes are more familiar with their buddies, the P6 children chose a book with a theme they thought their P1 buddy would enjoy!
Polwarth Pre-Loved Sale is an entirely volunteer-run sale offering 5000+ pre-loved items for children and babies, including clothing, toys and equipment. It provides a great way to reduce waste and beat cost-of-living increases. Sellers can declutter and make some cash; buyers are guaranteed a great selection of bargains across all areas. Proceeds from the sale go directly to our chosen charity, currently Drake Music Scotland who create music-making opportunities for children with disabilities or additional support needs. Unsold clothes can be donated to Kids Love Clothes.
P3/4 and P4 enjoyed their trip to Napier University where they got to visit the wood workshop room, plastics engineering lab and the print and engineering lab. They also got a wee goodie bag to go home with too! What a fun and interesting afternoon for all!
P5/6, P6 and P7 had a fantastic day working with Scottish Opera to perform ‘Vikings! The Quest of the Dragon’s Treasure’ at St Brides centre on Tuesday. We had a great dress rehearsal for nursery to P5 pupils and then performed to over 120 parents.
P2b have been learning all about Chinese New Year. To celebrate 2024 being the Year of the Dragon we each decorated a mask using bright colours. What a fantastic job P2!
This term, P2 have been finding out how to keep a baby safe, especially as babies develop and reaching new milestones and facing new safety issues. They really enjoyed Ammar’s visit with his mum, where Zeinab shared with the children how she keeps Ammar safe. The children discovered how vulnerable babies are, how dependent they are on their family and how they must never be left alone.
In addition the children enjoyed sharing their knowledge and experience of home safety tips: always place a baby on their back when they are going to sleep, not leaving hot beverages on the edge of a table, keeping toxic chemicals out of reach and removing potential electrical hazards. Also discovering how mums-to-be keep themselves and their babies healthy during pregnancy.
Through learning how to keep a baby safe, the children appreciated that they can play a part in keeping themselves and others safe. Whether it is in the park, playing games online, crossing the road, at school or at home.
