World Book Day Festival – Thursday 1st March 2018

World Book day is next Thursday.

The children are invited to attend school dressed up as a favourite character from a book they have enjoyed reading. (This is entirely optional and your child can still attend school in their normal school uniform).

If your child has any unwanted books in your house that you feel would be suitable for the school library, please drop them off at the school office, they will be greatly received.

P3 note- P3a, P3b and P4 are off to the zoo on 1st of March so we would invite them to dress up on Friday 2nd instead, as we would hate to accidentally leave anybody dressed as The Enormous Crocodile, The Tiger Who Came to Tea or Slow Loris in a cage at the zoo, at hometime, by accident.

Joseph Coelho Visit

Scottish Book Trust Schools Event with Joseph Coelho

Thursday 22nd February

Joseph Coelho will be in school to see children in from P4-P7.

Joseph is a performance poet and playwright who is “a fresh new voice in children’s poetry”. He works tirelessly to dispel the view that poetry is “boring” with his fun and exciting poetry.

Following the event Joseph will sign copies of his books. If your child already owns copies please get them to bring them along to be signed.

Your child can also buy copies of Joseph Coelho’s books on the day (see attached letter for prices).

Children are under no obligation to buy books but if you would like them to we are able to accept cash and cheques (please make them out to Scottish Book Trust).

Scots Assembly and Sorries Visit

The whole school enjoyed a very special Scots assembly led by ‘The Sorries’ to mark our annual Scots focus week. Our children from nursery to P7 performed a variety of Scots songs and poems, and we all loved the live music performance from ‘The Sorries’.

P4 and P5/4 also enjoyed a bodrum drum workshop after the assembly was over with Douglas and Martin.

Dragon of The Western Sea

This week students from P5-7 went to Tynecastle for the Scottish Opera’s amazing Dragon of the Western Sea project.

They dressed in fabulous costumes, sang brilliantly and performed fantastically.

Well done to all who took part.

A singalong songbook for the project is available On the Scottish Opera Website for the children to keep singing the songs if they wish.
