P7 Zoo trip

P7 went to the Zoo this week and attended the official opening of the Confucius Science hub at Edinburgh Zoo.

We had the chance to see the pandas and explore the zoo, as well as attend the ceremony where we sang for the guests. Afterwards, we took part in a variety of workshops which included Chinese tea, crafts, calligraphy, dressing up, music and using chopsticks.

Book Fair Next Week

We are delighted to be holding the Dalry Primary School Book Fair. This is an important reading and fund raising event for the school, last year we raised £583.01 which was used to buy books for the school. The Book Fair will be held from Monday 26th February to Friday 2nd March 2018. The children will be able to browse among a wide variety of books and purchase any books of their choice. * There is no obligation to purchase any books. Last orders for the books will be Friday 2nd March 2018. No orders will be accepted after this date.

The Book Fair will be supplied by a Scottish company – The Travelling Book Company. There will be a wide selection of children’s books, young fiction and junior novels, as well as reference and non-fiction titles. It was a great success last year and allowed us to buy a large number of novels for the school.

Each class will get a chance to visit, to buy or just browse. Parents are very welcome to come and join their child’s class at the Book Fair and help him/her to choose a book. Entry to the school is via the Main Entrance only and all visitors should sign in. If you are unable to come along and your child finds a book which he/she would like, then a parental permission slip will be sent home. Some of the more popular books will need to be ordered from the company therefore, will arrive in school at some point after the Book Fair. All cheques should be made payable to Dalry Primary School.

The timetable of class visits and Fair opening times is as in the attachment below:

Joseph Coelho Poetry Event

On Thursday Joseph Coelho visited Dalry Primary school with the support of The Scottish Book Trust .

Joseph is a leading children’s and performance poet and was here to educate, entertain and enthral.

He did all three in good measure, introducing our P4-P7 classes to metaphor, onomatopoeia, rhyme, emotion, rhythm, aliteration, personification and simile.

He did so in a way that left big grins and excitement all round along with the ability to use a wider range of poetic tools.

If your child is interested in learning more about Joseph and seeing more of his performances use the links below.

Thanks for the visit Joseph Coelho and thank you to the Scottish Book Trust for supporting and providing it.
